make jewelry

So last weekend, I started organizing my clothes for Spring. One of the things I like to do is update my wardrobe a little every season, but of course that can get expensive. Sometimes little things like a new scarf, purse or jewelry can freshen things up.

I used to make beaded jewelry long, long ago. Like pre-kids. I remember there was this store called The Bead Shop in Rice Village in Houston where you could go buy beads and they would help you make your jewelry. We were so into that in middle school. like we spent hours wandering around the hundreds of bowls of beads looking for inspiration. (I just googled and the store is in business but they moved from their iconic location.)

I sort of stopped a few years ago. I have fibromyalgia and I used to get a lot of pain and stiffness in my hands. Also post-kids there’s the whole I-don’t-have-time problem and the classic a-bead-might-be-swallowed excuse.

I have a moderate stockpile of beads and findings that I can’t bear to part with. So I decided this is the time to make something new. I want to go through what I have and sort out the stuff that I’m really not going to use and organize the rest.

I’m planning to make a necklace and maybe a bracelet. I have some beads I bought in Barcelona in 2010– five years ago— that I have always wanted to use, so hopefully they won’t have to wait any longer to dangle around my neck.
