I’m finishing up my last week here in Austin. It’s been a great visit. I’ve enjoyed hanging out with my sister-in-law and her new baby girl and it’s been awesome to see Boo-Boo bond with his cousin who is just four weeks older than he is. Boo-Boo has changed a lot since we have been traveling this summer. He is 18 months old and is more and more verbal every day. He is picking up some of Hubby’s first language and has even learned to say “no” to me!
Although I feel a little sad that my baby is growing up so quickly, I am looking forward to all the activities he’s finally ready to do.
Since we’ve been in Austin, we’ve spent more than a few scorching hot afternoons in the backyard with the watering hose.
Boo-Boo and his cousin have enjoyed holding the hose and filling up a plastic wagon with water. It seems like such a simple task, but it requires concentration, strength and coordination.
Boo-Boo has become obsessed with acorns. He’s even learned the word! He gathers them up from the ground and washes off the dirt and then lines then up. Yesterday, he began adding them to the water-filled wagon along with rocks. Of course, the acorn floated and the rock sunk. I just sat and watched as he observed this natural phenomena.
In addition to filling up the wagon, Boo-Boo started filling up the holes in a brick. As he filled them with water, the dirt and debris inside floated to the top and he stirred it with some small sticks.
He also enjoyed imitating his uncle by watering the plants with the hose.
Boo-Boo has had the most fun and enriching learning experiences with a simple watering hose. I had considered purchasing a water table at the beginning of the summer and I’m so glad that I didn’t. Although I’m sure he would enjoy one, I am happy for him to have more freedom to play and imagine at this age.
Check back Friday for more outdoor learning adventures!
