Today I’m sharing another update from our trip to Canada last month. It seems a little surreal to be writing about our chilly trip while I’m in Houston. We are wearing short sleeves and running the air conditioning in the car here!

One of the neatest places we went in Ottawa was the Canadian Museum of Civilization. I should say that the museum is technically not in Ottawa but in Gatineau, Quebec, which is the French-speaking city just across the river from Ottawa.

The top photo is a mural painted on the top of one of the museum rotundas. I just loved the vibrant colors!

These were part of the toy exhibit in the Children’s Museum. I have always loved doll houses. This one reminded me of how I’d imagined the house in Rumer Godden’s book A Doll’s House.Below there’s a Etch-a-Sketch, Light Bright and Spirograph. I played with all three when I was little!

Here’s a view of our hotel from the museum. We ate lunch in the cozy little cafe right next to the frozen river.
The museum devotes an entire floor to the First Peoples. The totem poles are breathtaking!
Of course I’m a big language nerd and I couldn’t resist this phonetic guide.
I was also very interested in the exhibit about the Toles School of Amber Valley. It was a community founded by black settlers who fled Oklahoma in the early 1900s.

I’ll have one more post about Montreal later this week. For more about our trip, read here
