A couple of weekends ago, we took a day trip to the beach. It wasn’t Boo-Boo’s first trip, but I felt like it was his first memorable experience. I wanted to help him remember his experience after we returned home, so I came up with a few things to add to his play shelves.
Above, is a cake pan that he can stick the aquarium magnet to along with a few sea animal photo cards and some shells. I made sure the shells were sterilized (boiled them) and that they weren’t too small or too sharp.
I brought out his “fishbowl” Melissa & Doug puzzle and gave him the pinwheel, which we had at the beach that day.
Beside pulling out any of the books we already had that dealt with sea/beach themes, I went to the library and checked out several books. Horray for Fish! was his favorite of the library books. He likes the bold colors and got to practice one of his new words: FISH.

I had another idea of burying shells and animal morphs in some play sand so we can dig them out. We haven’t gotten around to it yet, but I’m sure I’ll share if we do. Any other experience extension activities that you’ve done? Any more sea/beach ideas?
